One of the programs that the Order of the Arrow has to offer within lodges is the Chapter Program. Chapters, when implemented and used correctly, are essentially “mini-lodges” within each lodge. To put it in a more general Boy Scout perspective, the lodge can be considered a troop and the chapters can be considered a patrol that operates within it.

The purpose and responsibility of each chapter is to serve the district in which it functions. It is to provide support staff at district functions such as camporees and klondikes upon request. It is also required that the chapters contribute support to overall Council service requests as part of the lodge. The chapter is also to promote brotherhood and fellowship through intuitive and unique means. Each chapter determines its own activities and agenda in carrying out this objective.

Positions within the chapters, elections for which are held every December in accordance with the By-Laws of Sakuwit Lodge, are as follows:

Chapter Chief
The Chapter Chief is the leader of the Chapter. He is the sole Chapter representative to the Lodge Executive Committee with a vote and he chairs any and all Chapter meetings. The Chapter Chief designates what responsibilities each Vice-Chief has as per the Vice-Chief guidelines. It is also his responsibility to plan each Chapter meeting that he decides to
hold based on Chapter membership recommendations and/or his own discretion. He is also to give a report on the Chapter’s status and
upcoming activities at every District Roundtable.

Chapter Vice-Chief
There shall be two (2) Chapter Vice-Chiefs and they are level ranking Chapter leaders. There are numerous responsibilities that the Chapter Chief may delegate to either one of the Vice-Chiefs, depending on
personal strengths and the Chapter Chief’s preference. More information on specific responsibilities can be found in the Lodge Chapter Policy Guide.

Chapter Secretary
The Chapter Secretary is responsible for the taking and publishing of minutes from every Chapter meeting. He is also to record notes from any other Chapter events such as Chapter shoots or other fellowship activities in which the Chapter is involved.
